Chromatic atmosphere
Layered color fields, warm/cool shifts and transparent passages that let light appear to sit inside the painting.
CanvasCurrent treats painting as a moving surface: pigment drifts, marks collide, light changes the reading, and every finished work keeps a trace of the decisions that made it.
My paintings begin with close observation and develop through layers of transparent wash, scraped pigment, dry-brush texture and unexpected color interruptions. I am interested in the point where a recognizable place becomes an emotional landscape.
The studio practice moves between atmospheric color, physical mark-making and quiet edits. Each body of work has its own visual weather.
Layered color fields, warm/cool shifts and transparent passages that let light appear to sit inside the painting.
Broad brush movement, dragged pigment and decisive interruptions that keep the hand visible.
Sanding, scraping and overpainting reduce the image until only the essential visual tension remains.
Landscapes are used as starting points rather than destinations, memory and sensation complete the image.
A small selection from ongoing landscape, abstraction and mixed-observation series.
Reference images, sketches, color notes and remembered sensations establish the emotional direction without locking the composition.
Large passages arrive first. Layers are allowed to collide, dry, soften and reveal earlier decisions beneath them.
Scraping and overpainting remove visual noise until the remaining marks carry the weight of the work.
